Powering up your modem

The modem gets its power directly from your computer. When your computer is off, the modem is off as well. When your computer powers up the modem, you should see a few lights blinking. How can you tell you’re connected to the Internet? Simply by looking at the lights…
- Power on – Left light is green
- Active USB connection to computer – Left light is green
- Active DSL connection to Sympatico network - Right light is green
Restarting your modem
If you experience any surfing or e-mailing problems, try restarting your modem.
To restart your modem, unplug your modem from your computer for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
If you have a home networking router that connects your computers to each other, turn it off after your modem powers down. Wait until your modem has restarted before you turn your router back on.
Even if you’re not having any problems with your Internet connection, you should still follow the steps above. Restart your modem (and your router, if you have one) at least once a month (for maintenance purposes).
